HOW TO MANAGE: LOCKDOWN LIFTING ANXIETY

This week marks the last of Englands lockdown restrictions lifting and although this is very exciting for some, for others the concept of a full return normal life can be stressful. If you are feeling this way we wanted to let you know that you are not alone and it is TOTALLY normal to feel anxious at this time!

We wanted to remind you that just because restrictions have lifted, it doesn't mean you have to change the way you are acting or feel pressurised to go out. To help you along your way we’ve complied our top tips for coping with anxiety as we come out of lockdown…

Go at your own pace

Don’t feel pressure to put yourself in situations that make you feel uncomfortable! You might feel pressurised or tempted to make a lot of plans and say yes to everything as things open up but there’s really no need to rush. You do’t have to pick up where you left pre-pandemic - take things step by step to slowly build your confidence back up first. 


 

Talk to friends and family

Let those close to you know how you are feeling! It’s likely other people are feeling the same too and becoming aware of others fears and expectations as well as your own will help everyone feel more comfortable. You can do this over the phone or why not meet for a coffee or venture out for a picnic amongst nature. All of these options are good for the soul!


Do not avoid things entirely 

This may seem like a good idea at the time but it is a short term solution that will leave you feeling worse in the long run. Instead, try and set yourself small but manageable targets. For example, meeting someone for lunch, going shopping and build upon each step in your own time. Take your bestie with you along the way to help at each step! 

 

Set out a new routine 

During lockdown we all developed new routines, perhaps those that made it easier to manage a life in lockdown. As we return to normal life it might be useful to set yourself out with a new routine. Making simple changes such as going to bed and waking up at the same time very day can make a big difference! 

 

Set time to relax and put your mental health first 

Going out again can be a lot to take in so it’s important to find time to relax too. Practice good habits around wellbeing, such as going for walks or taking time to meditate. Don’t feel bad about creating boundaries for your mental health either, remember to put yourself first, always!
